LOS ANGELES--Nov. 17, 2011: CarMD.com Corporation today announced that Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., is the recipient of the first annual CarMDŽ Vehicle Health Index Best Manufacturer Award, which ranked automotive manufacturers on the combined fewest average "check engine"-related repair incidents and lowest average repair costs over a one-year period ending Oct. 1, 2011.

Art Jacobsen, vice president of CarMD, presented the award to Brian Lyons, Toyota'ssafety and quality communications manager, today during Media Days at the Toyota booth in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Auto Show.

"We are pleased to receive CarMD's inaugural Vehicle Health Index award and its acknowledgement of the 2009 Corolla as the top ranked vehicle for lowest repair incidents and repair costs," Said Bob Waltz, Vice President of Product Quality and Service Support, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. "These awards further recognize our effort to minimize vehicle ownership costs by providing reliable and durable vehicles and parts, and highly trained dealership technicians with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and information."

Toyota Motor Sales earned the no. 1 manufacturer ranking based on a CarMD Vehicle Health Index score derived from the fewest percentage of check engine light-related problems and lowest average repair cost per U.S. vehicle population. Toyota, which includes Lexus, Scion and Toyota, had the lowest CarMD Index rating of 0.67. The lower the rating, the better the overall ranking. Toyota vehicles also accounted for four of the top 10 vehicles ranked by the CarMD Index, including the no. 1 ranked 2009 Toyota Corolla.

CarMD has compiled the industry's most comprehensive database of diagnostic trouble codes and repairs for check engine-related problems, uniquely positioning the company to provide data on a wide range of vehicles and manufacturers. The CarMD Vehicle Health Index is the first index to rank manufacturers and vehicles using real world, statistically-based data on "check engine"-related failures and car repair costs.
