MENOMONEE FALLS, WI--December 15, 2011: Kohl's Department Stores today announced that the company will pilot electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at 33 Kohl's stores nationwide. Each participating Kohl's store will have one to four parking spaces reserved for EV drivers to charge at no cost while they shop. Charging stations can be activated by EV drivers in various ways including radio frequency identification (RFID) cards available at Kohl's customer service desk and via phone numbers provided on the charging stations. To maximize the number of participating Kohl's stores, the company is partnering with ECOtality Inc. and Coulomb Technologies on the installation of these charging stations and as a participant in their respective EV infrastructure pilot programs funded partially through the U.S. Department of Energy.

“Not only are these stations an added shopper convenience, they also encourage environmental responsibility among our shoppers. We will continue to explore additional locations to pilot charging stations at our stores nationwide.”

"Kohl's pilot of electric vehicle charging stations demonstrates our commitment to advancing environmental solutions in a meaningful and tangible way for our customers," said John Worthington, Kohl's chief administrative officer. "Not only are these stations an added shopper convenience, they also encourage environmental responsibility among our shoppers. We will continue to explore additional locations to pilot charging stations at our stores nationwide."

14 Kohl's Stores Part of EV Project

Kohl's has partnered with ECOtality, Inc. to install Blink® Pedestal EV charging stations at 14 Kohl's locations across Arizona, California, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington. Each Kohl's store will have a minimum of two reserved parking spots for EVs, and several sites have up to four chargers.

ECOtality is the project manager of The EV Project, in which the company will oversee the installation of commercial and residential charging stations in 18 major cities and metropolitan areas in six states and the District of Columbia. The project will provide an EV infrastructure to support the deployment of EVs in these key markets. The project is a public-private partnership, funded in part by the U.S. Department of Energy through a federal stimulus grant and made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). ECOtality charging stations will be available at select Kohl's stores through the duration of The EV Project, which runs through December 31, 2012, after which Kohl's will assess opportunities to continue or expand upon the effort. More information about The EV Project is available at www.theevproject.com.

19 Kohl's Stores Part of ChargePoint America Program

To further increase the number of stores piloting electric vehicle charging stations, Kohl's has partnered with Coulomb Technologies to install charging stations at 19 additional stores that will be part of Coulomb's ChargePoint® Network, the largest online network of electric vehicle charging stations and drivers. One Coulomb charging station will be installed in the parking lots of select stores in California, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Kohl's Coulomb stations are a part of the ChargePoint America program made possible by a grant funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) through the Transportation Electrification Initiative administered by the U.S. Department of Energy. Coulomb charging stations will be available at select Kohl's stores through the duration of the ChargePoint America program, which runs through October 2013, after which Kohl's will assess opportunities to continue or expand upon the effort. More information about ChargePoint America is available at ChargePoint America.

The new EV charging stations support Kohl's commitment to being a leading environmentally responsible retailer through strategies including waste reduction and recycling, environmentally responsible building design and operation, use and support of renewable energy, energy efficiency initiatives and stakeholder engagement. To date, the company has more than 110 solar locations in nine states, including California, Wisconsin, Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland, Oregon, Colorado, Pennsylvania and Arizona. Kohl's also ranks first in retail and second overall on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's list of top green power partners, purchasing enough green power to meet 100 percent of its purchased electricity use. In spring 2011, the company also launched its first two wind locations at its Findlay, Ohio distribution center and Corpus Christi, Texas store. In recognition of these efforts, Kohl's was named a 2011 Green Power Partner of the Year and 2010 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year. The company has more than 650 ENERGY STAR-labeled stores nationwide.
