FYI: Chrysler Buyer's Guide

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 19, 2011 --

  • Company is one of 190 leading employers to achieve a perfect score in the 2012 report
  • Index rates major employers based on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) workplace policies and benefits defining the best -in- class practices for LGBT inclusion in the workplace
  • Company has achieved a perfect score six times since the index was established in 2002

According to a report released last week by the Human Rights Commission (HRC), Chrysler Group was one of 190 leading employers to achieve a perfect score of 100 percent on HRC's 2012 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The HRC is the educational arm of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, America's largest civil rights organization, and is dedicated to achieving LGBT equality. The HRC rated 636 employers for the 2012 report.  This was the sixth time Chrysler Group has achieved a perfect score on the CEI, which was established in 2002.

The CEI rates corporations annually based on their LGBT workplace policies and benefits and reflects equal health care coverage for all LGBT employees and their families. A perfect score indicates a company provides full parity for domestic partner benefits, not only in basic medical coverage, but in dependent care, retirement and other benefits that affect families' financial and medical well-being. Chrysler Group's 100 percent rating also signifies coverage for transgender individuals for medically necessary care -- a community the HRC notes has historically been overlooked.

"All of our employees at Chrysler contribute to the success of our Company," said Nancy A. Rae, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Chrysler Group LLC. "Chrysler Group prides itself in creating an inclusive business environment in which all people and ideas are appreciated and respected."

"This year's CEI also rated businesses' demonstrated commitment to a robust LGBT organizational competency program that enhances an inclusive work environment, a public commitment to the LGBT community in the form of philanthropy, support for LGBT equality under the law, supplier diversity and other efforts aimed at broadly engaging with our community," the report notes. "LGBT people are an integral part of the American workforce and, similarly, the benefits and protections of employment are crucial to our community as we continue to work for full inclusion."

About Chrysler Group's Leadership Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Early in 2010, CEO Sergio Marchionne assumed the role as executive sponsor of Chrysler's Global Diversity Council and reaffirmed the commitment of Chrysler Group's leadership team to the values and principles of diversity. "Culture is the fabric that holds organizations together. It is not just an ingredient for success; it is the essence of success itself," Marchionne wrote. "This is why my leadership team and I are committed to creating an atmosphere where all of our people feel respected and valued, because every person plays an important role in shaping our future, including employees, our supply base, our marketing and our dealer network. Chrysler Group LLC and its people have a future with promise. We will reach the full measure of that promise only as one, united diverse team."

Chrysler has been a leader in promoting diversity throughout its enterprise. The Company has been recognized six times by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation as one of the country's leading corporations supporting diversity and inclusion. Chrysler Group has been named to HispanicBusiness magazine's annual Diversity Elite 60 list for implementing strategies to reach more Hispanic customers and to pursue more business with minority- and Hispanic-owned suppliers. In March 2011, the editors of DiversityInc magazine named Chrysler Group to the magazine's 2011 list of "Top 50 Companies for Diversity." This coveted annual benchmark is comprised of companies the magazine's editors believe are diversity-management leaders. This was the fifth year since the list was established in 2001 that Chrysler has been included.
