WASHINGTON--Jan. 24, 2012: To highlight clean diesel technology's role in increasing fuel efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the Diesel Technology Forum (DTF) will participate and exhibit in the "Advanced Technology SuperHighway" program at the 2012 Washington Auto Show.

In addition, DTF Executive Director Allen Schaeffer will be participating in the show's Public Policy Day on Thursday, January 26th.  The auto show will be open to the public from January 27th through February 5th.

"We are inviting policymakers from around Washington D.C., including those from the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy and Congressional staff to attend the Public Policy Day events and visit the Forum's clean diesel exhibit," Schaeffer said.  "The Washington D.C. Auto Show is uniquely situated to attract key federal policymakers and we hope to educate as many officials as possible about the numerous advancements in clean diesel automobile technology and ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel.

2012 Begins Well For U.S. Clean Diesel Auto Market

"The first three weeks of 2012 have been extremely exciting times for clean diesel automobiles in the U.S.," Schaeffer said.  "First, there was the North American International Auto Show in Detroit that featured announcements about several new clean diesel cars and trucks that will be marketed in the U.S. in the next few years.

"Then there was the 2011 auto sales data that showed an impressive 27 percent increase in U.S. diesel automobile sales last year.

"When you also consider the new federal fuel efficiency standards that will require 54.5 mpg by 2025, the future growth of the clean diesel market in the U.S. looks extremely promising," Schaeffer said.

The Advanced Technology SuperHighway

The Washington Auto Show presents 65,000 square feet of innovations in automotive safety and green technology with its "Advanced Technology SuperHighway" (ATS). This pavilion tells the story of the range of solutions revolutionizing the automotive industry, showcasing developments in electric, hybrid, hydrogen, clean diesel, natural gas, ethanol, biofuel and advanced petroleum technologies - and the very latest thinking in automotive safety.

Displaying more green cars than any other domestic, tier-one auto show, the Washington Auto Show's Advanced Technology SuperHighway presents the show's most ambitious effort to support and promote progressive innovations for the automotive industry.

DTF Exhibit to Showcase Clean Diesel Technology

The Forum's exhibit will help showcase clean diesel technology's important role in the effort to reduce fuel consumption, increase fuel efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

The DTF exhibit will include:

  • Information about the clean diesel automobiles and light duty trucks currently available in the U.S. and future diesel cars and trucks that will be coming to the U.S.;
  • Fact sheets highlighting clean diesel fuel economy, responsive acceleration, use of biofuels and ease of finding diesel fuel stations;
  • A QR code that will attendees to scan the barcode to take them directly to a mobile device optimized landing page that features key light-duty information including all the currently available diesel models, the diesel fuel savings calculator, and the diesel fuel locator.  A unique URL for this page was developed at www.dieselforum.org/dcautoshow for those who do not have the ability to scan QR codes.

DTF's Website and Social Media

DTF will also utilize social media to engage policymakers and attendees during the 2012 Washington Auto Show.  DTF staff will be posting pictures of clean diesel vehicles and highlighting new diesel-related announcements from the numerous automaker press conferences that are scheduled at the show.

These will all be posted on the DTF website as well as being sent out on Twitter and Facebook. To receive these updates from DTF, go to the Forum's Facebook page and follow DTF on Twitter @DieselTechForum.

ABOUT THE DIESEL TECHNOLOGY FORUM
