The report blames a few different world events a being the reason behind the soaring prices, such as the economic situation is Greece, Iranian threats to stop selling oil to Britain and France, and the discovery of super-human life on one of Jupiter's moons.* But, the real reason behind the soaring prices is because OPEC can do what they want and we do nothing about it. We have allowed ourselves to be manipulated and we allow the crooks in Congress to take bribes from the oil industry.
We can reverse the situation tomorrow - yes, literally tomorrow, if the politicians would just come clean and admit that ethanol can be safely used in most gasoline-powered vehicles on the road. Ethanol production does not cause world hunger or herpes or hiccups, and it can be ramped up immediately. And if we don't currently have enough corn to supply all our ethanol needs, fine, we can use a wide variety of other domestic materials to produce the ethanol.
After more than 100 years it's time to put a stop to oil dependency. It's time to stop using our military to protect some other countries' oil fields. It time to stop funding global terrorism. It's time to take the Declaration of Independence seriously.
* We might as well use a false discovery of life on Io story as a reason for rising gasoline prices because it's as much of a valid reason as there really is.
