Statement from Global Automakers' President and CEO Michael J. Stanton on Obama's Push for Alternative Fuel Vehicles

Co-publishers Note: All of the one-sies and two-sies alt fuel concepts below may be potential winners (well most of them) but Americans must not be made to wait for decades to have a “Good for America” choice of fuel.

Now it seems our President has become the mouthpiece for organizations like the Global Automakers Association (Association of International Automobile Manufacturers, Inc.) whose members have a vested interest in delaying or preventing America's Freedom Fuel, ethanol, from ever becoming our ubiquitous alt-fuel solution.

There are more than 250 million cars on our roads that will NEVER be replaced by any or all of the alt fuel technologies below (but all can run safely on Freedom Fuel, sustainable, domestic and green E-85). Meaning that for the foreseeable future (or forever) most American's will be forced to continue their reliance on gasoline for their mobility fuel.

Mr. Stanton’s organization economically and administratively supports an anti-E15 position, that is helping keep mistruths and outright lies about ethanol front and center in the public’s vernacular. The Auto Channel believes that Mr. Obama’s recently unveiled and touted “All-of-the-Above” alt fuel strategy misses the point and will have a “None-of-the-Above” result, guaranteeing Big Oil's monopoly for another 100 years.

Mr. Obama’s et al “many solution” rhetoric pushes the needed political will, enthusiasm, and support for a timely replacement for gasoline to the background by bringing attention, funding, and public support for a plethora of untested, unrealistic, and future (maybe) technologies in place of an immediate drop-in replacement for gasoline; thereby condemning American drivers to continue to fill up their fuel tanks with Big Oil's smack. American’s may complain about cost but seem to have bought the "No Single Bullet" propaganda so they docilely stay resigned to their plight, because like a junkie, they still enjoy highs without a realistic concern or outcry for the lows that they must know will surely come.

Research shows that despite of all of today’s alt fuel investments, inventions, EV fairy-tales and sycophantic media blah-blah-blah, the U.S. is projected to reduce gasoline-use levels only 20% in 20 years. If this is not proof of a successful Divide and Conquer campaign by big oil, what is?

Our nation’s malaise is supported by a missing honest and informed mainstream press, as well as on America’s lack of alt fuel intelligence, resulting from a very successful anti-ethanol propaganda machine paid for and delivered by those in commerce and government whose goal it is to maintain oil's monopoly for the next century. I don’t know about you, but I’m pissed as hell, shouldn’t you be also? bgordon@theautochannel.com

WASHINGTON - March 8, 2012: Global Automakers Association commends President Obama for taking steps to encourage consumer purchases of various advanced technology clean vehicles through tax incentives and credits.

Our Association has long believed that the U.S. government should take a technology and fuel neutral approach to incentivizing alternative fuels, advanced technology vehicles, and infrastructure to help automobile manufacturers bring the latest technologies to the marketplace faster. We feel strongly that the government should not pick winners and losers by favoring one fuel or technology over another.

Global Automakers' members' commitment to developing green technologies for the U.S. market has resulted in the following achievements:

  • First hybrid in the U.S. market and 87% of the U.S. hybrid market today
  • First all-electric, zero-emission mass-market vehicle
  • First mass-market gasoline-electric hybrid
  • First fuel cell vehicle certified for consumer use
  • First natural gas-powered vehicle available for consumer use
  • First lower-emission LEV, ULEV, SULEV, and near-zero emission AT-PZEV vehicles

We have consistently supported efforts by the federal government to require meaningful improvements in fuel economy with reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles and light trucks. Our members continue to invest millions of R&D dollars to reduce the environmental footprint of their vehicles. You can learn more about their efforts on our new fuel economy focused website at: www.drivingfueleconomy.com

The Association of Global Automakers represents international motor vehicle manufacturers, original equipment suppliers, and other automotive-related trade associations. We work with industry leaders, legislators, and regulators to create the kind of public policy that improves vehicle safety, encourages technological innovation, and protects our planet. Our goal is to foster a competitive environment in which more vehicles are designed and built to enhance American's quality of life. For more information, visit www.globalautomakers.org.
