FREMONT, CA--May 15, 2012: Delta Products Corporation, a Delta Group company, headquartered in Fremont, CA, has been awarded a $1.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), for the development and demonstration of a residential electric vehicle charging system with smart grid communication capabilities. The smart-charging system will allow utilities to reduce infrastructure costs and manage load during peak hours. The system will benefit consumers by taking advantage of off-peak electricity rates for electric vehicle charging. Delta's system price is targeted to be 50% lower than today's competing technologies. The research project will develop smart-grid enabled residential electric vehicle chargers over the next 3 years that will allow the quick deployment of charging infrastructure for plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) to help reduce America's dependence on foreign oil. Delta will work in conjunction with their partners The Detroit Edison Company, Mercedes Benz R&D North America, and kVA to develop a working demonstration system.

“To provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow”

The DOE grant is part of $7 million in research and development funding that will help improve the development and design of electric vehicle charging equipment. The grant furthers the U.S. Department of Energy's commitment to improve America's energy security and economic competitiveness through the development of advanced vehicle technologies.

Delta Products' President M.S. Huang said, "We are delighted to work with DOE and our partners to bring this important technology to market. The combination of electric vehicles and smart grid technology is key to helping reduce energy use. Delta is proud to participate in this program and is committed to the advancement of electric vehicle technologies. This project aligns with our corporate mission 'To provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow.'" Delta manufactures electric vehicle charging equipment, which includes Level-2 AC, and DC Quick Charging Stations, as well as provides major automotive OEMs with a wide variety of system level components for electric vehicles.
