BEAVERTON, OR--September 25, 2012: The Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), an organization driving global innovation for phone-centric car connectivity solutions, today announced Nokia veteran Alan Ewing as its new executive director. A 14-year Nokia veteran, Ewing is a prominent figure in the global mobile industry and reflects a groundswell of support from automotive, smartphone and CE manufacturers for the CCC's MirrorLink car connectivity standard.

“With MirrorLink on a rapid and exponential growth curve, it's only natural the CCC would strengthen its operational and executive forces”

"With MirrorLink on a rapid and exponential growth curve, it's only natural the CCC would strengthen its operational and executive forces," said Mika Rytkonen, president and chairman of the CCC. "Given his distinguished track record in the mobile industry -- especially when it comes to device and system certification -- Alan is the logical choice for executive director, and we are honored to have him. His leadership will allow us to continue what has been an incredible journey, and I have no doubt he will speed us toward our goal of delivering MirrorLink to as many apps, devices and cars as possible."

Ewing has more than 20 years of experience in the design, deployment and operation of product certification systems in the mobile telecoms and consumer electronics industries and has worked in the both the certification test lab and standardization realms. His 14-year tenure at Nokia consisted of various management- and director-level positions, the most recent of which was director of certification and regulatory policy. In addition to serving as one of Nokia's ambassadors to the CCC, he represented the company at CCF, CTIA, PTCRB, WiMax Forum, Wi-Fi Alliance and GSM-Americas.

"To the extent that certification plays a central role in ensuring MirrorLink's saturation in the global connected car ecosystem, I am very excited to apply my expertise in the role of CCC executive director," said Ewing. "In all my years in the mobile industry, few standards have offered the degree of promise MirrorLink holds to fuse driving with today's most popular modes of connectivity. I look forward to working with all of our members to deliver on MirrorLink's core potential and to helping put even more muscle behind our already brisk momentum."

The CCC is a global collaboration to develop smartphone-based connected-car solutions. To that end, CCC members have created MirrorLink, a technology standard for controlling a nearby smartphone from the steering wheel or via dashboard buttons and screens. CCC members include more than 80 percent of the world's automakers, more than 70 percent of global smartphone manufacturers and a who's who of aftermarket consumer electronics vendors.
