BMW 4 Series Concept

Detroit January 14, 2013; BMW this morning unveiled BMW M6 Gran Coupe, the North American Premiere of the BMW 3 Series Sports Wagon and the Newly Updated BMW Z4

Adding new dimensions of aesthetics, dynamics and elegance to the qualities of the renowned BMW 3 Series Coupe, the BMW 4 Series Concept Coupe made its world debut at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Monday, January 14 at the BMW. More than simply the start of a new cycle, the BMW 4 Series Concept Coupe represents the peak of a development curve and features its own individual character and a standalone design. BMW will also feature the world debut of the 2013 BMW M6 Gran Coupe, the North America debut of the BMW 3 Series Sports Wagon and the newly updated BMW Z4 as well as the BMW i3 Concept Coupe and the BMW i8 Concept.

Built on the tradition of the larger BMW 6 Series and BMW 8 Series Coupes, the BMW 4 Series Concept Coupe boasts a standalone design and a new level of sporting dynamics and greater exclusivity. Featuring a slightly longer wheelbase, wider stance and considerably lower roofline than the BMW 3 Series Coupe, the “4” creates a strong, athletic silhouette which exudes power even while stationary. New satin-finish aluminum trim on functional elements such as air intakes and vents, door openers and exterior mirrors add elegance to the design.

The BMW M6 Gran Coupe will bring together the hallmark performance attributes of a BMW M car with the extra spaciousness of a four-door Coupe. Familiar M features underscore the car’s bespoke styling inside and out. Under the hood, lies a V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology coupled with a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic, which together develop 560 hp.

The new BMW 3 Series Sports Wagon offers the flexibility and utility of a premium wagon combined with the driving dynamics of a BMW. Slightly larger than its predecessor, the new 3 Series Sports Wagon features a noticeable increase in interior space and ten percent more cargo volume. The BMW 3 Series Sports Wagon also features BMW’s award winning N20 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine, which improves fuel efficiency by more than ten percent. It will also be the next model to offer BMW Lines as a way to tailor the car to individual tastes, just as with the Sedan, by choosing from a quartet of trim and equipment variants – the Sport Line, Luxury Line, Modern Line and M Sport Line.

Refined exterior and interior design elements along with a new Design Pure Traction equipment package and optional new entry-level engine variant are the latest additions to the updated BMW Z4 Roadster. Three BMW TwinPower Turbo engine options will again be available for the US. The BMW Z4 sDrive28i features BMW’s award-winning 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder. It goes 0-60 mph in about five-and-a-half seconds and delivers up to 34 mpg. The Z4 sDrive35i and Z4 sDrive35is both use versions of BMW’s 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six. Further, the selection of driver assistance systems and BMW ConnectedDrive mobility services available on board the BMW Z4 have also been expanded.

Also at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, BMW showcased two of its latest BMW i concepts – the BMW i8 Concept and the BMW i3 Concept Coupe. The BMW i3 and the BMW i8 Concepts will be the first electric and hybrid electric cars to be made primarily of carbon fiber when they come to market in 2013 and 2014.
