Ford Fiesta Top Selling Sub-compact Model in Europe in 2012

THE HAGUE, January 24, 2013. The year 2012 has been successful for Ford of Europe. The Fiesta was the best-sold compact car and the second most popular car overall. According to the most recent Polk registration data, the Fiesta was also the world’s best-selling car in the subcompact segment. Polk announced that with more than 560,000 units sold, the Fiesta also was the best sold subcompact in the world in the first nine months of 2012.

Last year, on average, a new Ford Fiesta was sold every two minutes. This is the outcome of analyses of 30 European markets by JATO Dynamics, provider of vehicle information. In total, Ford sold 953,174 units, of which 306,405 Fiesta models in these markets. Recently Ford announced that the company sold more than 1.4 million cars in the 51 European markets where it is present.

Since the production start of the Fiesta in 1976, Ford has sold more than 15 million units worldwide. The past four years, the Fiesta was the best selling compact car for three years, with more than 1.7 million sold in Europe and more than 2.1 million units sold worldwide.

The United Kingdom was the main European market for the popular model, that is available with the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, which received the Engine of the Year 2012 award. The new Fiesta has the MyKey technology, which allows parents to promote safe driving and to limit the risks of their children when driving the car. The Fiesta also features the built-in Ford Sync, a voice connectivity system, and Emergency Sync, which connects directly in case of an accident to the local emergency services operators. Also Active City, that helps to stop at low speeds to avoid accidents is available for the Fiesta.

In a press release, Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford Europe, thanks the customers: “ The Fiesta to prove itself again in 2013, but it is well equipped to do so. We want to thank the customers who continue to rely on the Fiesta”.
