NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Firebird International Raceway

LOCAL RACER BYCROFT TAKES WIN AT FIREBIRD

PHOENIX Mrch 3, 2013; In the first of two NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events for this weekend's Pacific Division double-header at Firebird International Raceway, John Bycroft of Phoenix took the win in Super Street while JR Lobner scored for the second time in as many weeks.

Bycroft drove his '69 Dart to the win over Bob Richmond, Glendora, Calif., in 10.905 seconds at 133.66 mph pushing Richmond to breakout running too quick with a 10.852 second run on the 10.90 index.

Lobner, Gardner, Kan., won in the division's Top Sportsman class for the second week in a row winning the NHRA Arizona Nationals last weekend. Lobner clocked in at 7.537 at 181.86 mph in his '05 S-10 to beat Shawn Herbst, Selah, Wash., with a 7.715, 179.23 with his '63 Corvette.

In Comp Eliminator it was veteran racer Jeff Lane posting the win out of North Bend, Wash., and Dennis Paz, Stockton, Calif., went the distance in Super Stock holding off Scott Pearson, Stewartville, Minn.

Super Gas came down to a Southern California match up with Chad Langdon, La Mirada, Calif., defeating Robert Naber, Ontario, Calif., on a holeshot in his '74 Apollo.

Art Hoover, Concord, Calif., won in Top Dragster over Jim Momjian, Golden Valley, Calif. Hoover crossed the finish line in 6.702 seconds at 198.82 mph to Momjian's 7.013, 193.65.

Norman LaPointe, Elden Lacer and Rick Newport rounded out the first set of winner's for the weekend with the Sherwood Park, Alb., Can., racer LaPointe taking out Leo Glasbrenner, Chino, Calif., in Stock Eliminator. Elden Lacer, Las Vegas, beat Luke Bogacki, Carterville, Ill., in Super Comp, and Newport, West Valley, Utah, rode his '95 Suzuki to victory over Brockman Roberts, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson. Newport went 134.86 mph to Roberts' 133.98 on his '06 Harley.

All racers were back at it Sunday morning for the second half of the double-header with final eliminations scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
