Eco-friendly Kidney Cars Program Saves Lives

NEW YORK--April 22, 2013: The old car sitting in your driveway can breathe new life into the environment, your pocketbook and those suffering from kidney disease. This Earth Day, donate the car to Kidney Cars and become eligible for a tax deduction while helping the National Kidney Foundation get more mileage out of its education and prevention programs.

As millions do their part to ensure a more sustainable future, the National Kidney Foundation reminds Americans that donating a used vehicle is a simple way to recycle and reuse this Earth Day. All donated vehicles are either sold at auction or for parts.

A pioneering vehicle donation program that is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Kidney Cars has accepted more than 650,000 used vehicles that have pumped a total of $600 million into life-saving programs over the last three decades. During the course of one year, Kidney Cars recycles 15,000 cars, 60,000 tires and 30,000,000 million poundsĀ of steel.

The process is simple. Donations can be made by calling 1-800-488-CARS (2277) or visiting kidneycars.org. The National Kidney Foundation will pick up used cars, trucks, motorcycles or boats-- in almost any condition-- free of charge.

"Let your used vehicle join the thousands of others that have gone green for a good cause. A sputtering vehicle may actually revive the health of thousands suffering from kidney disease while helping save the planet at the same time," said Bruce Skyer, National Kidney Foundation CEO.
