New Report Shows Cleaner Buses Can Provide A Greener Future For Cities, Both Environmental And Economic

NEW YORK--April 25, 2013: A new report being released today by the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) shows the very promising results of new, clean bus technology which could help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, noise and overall pollution in the world's leading urban centers.

Announced by C40 Chair, New York City Michael R. Bloomberg at the New York Times Building Sustainable Cities conference, the Hybrid and Electric Bus Test Program, an initiative designed and implemented by the C40 in partnership with the Clinton Climate Initiative, and with financial support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), provides results that show that hybrid and electric bus technologies can perform as well or better than comparable diesel-powered buses, and with a greater economic benefit. 

The Program was implemented by local governments, bus suppliers, and bus operators in C40 cities Bogota, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and Santiago. The conclusive results of this testing and economic analysis are already informing and accelerating decisions related to the incorporation of efficient, low emissions bus technologies. And the early and committed adoption of new bus technologies by C40 cities could incentivize suppliers to invest in further technological development, which could result in markets being developed around the deployment of theses buses from a manufacturing, supply and service perspective.
