washington dc

WASHINGTON--Jan. 22, 2014: The Washington Automotive Press Association (WAPA) awarded Autoweek contributor Eric Tegler with the annual Golden Quill Award. Tegler was honored for his timely article regarding the potential security vulnerabilities present in modern vehicle control software.

"Cyber security was front and center in 2013," said WAPA President Melanie Batenchuk. "Eric's piece was thought-provoking and relevant, and we felt he should be recognized for it."

Each year at the Washington Auto Show, WAPA recognizes an exemplary journalist with the Golden Quill Award for their work covering the automotive industry. It can be a single article or a series of related articles published in the previous year.

"I'm honored to receive WAPA's Golden Quill award," said Tegler. "Washington area journalists produce some of the most substantive automotive coverage so being recognized among them is gratifying. The award and recent events highlight yet again the importance of cyber security countermeasures whether they protect personal financial records or cars."

Tegler's winning article was featured on the cover of the October 14, 2013 issue of Autoweek and is currently available on the publication's web site.

The goals of the Washington Automotive Press Association are to improve communication between automotive journalists in the Baltimore-Washington area and the automotive industry, regulators, and other related groups and further the accuracy and quality of automotive journalism.
