Milton Keynes--February 28, 2014: SKODA models have been voted best in class in two categories in the first ever UK Car of the Year Awards. ŠKODA was one of only two brands to secure more than one honour.

The new ŠKODA Octavia came top in the ‘Best Family Car’ class, while the Octavia Estate triumphed as ‘Best Estate Car’.

The new awards are judged by a panel of more than 25 highly experienced British-based motoring journalists. They include magazine and website editors, trade and consumer writers, motoring TV presenters, national newspaper columnists and freelance contributors.

Praising the Octavia, the judges said while the new third-generation car felt more upmarket, it hadn’t lost sight of its core appeal. They believed it was still practical, still affordable to own and still a comfortable car to be in.

One commented: “This car demonstrates excellent driving dynamics and sharp looks as well as interior quality, comfort and space, beating its top competitors for luggage load.”

Another added: “The ŠKODA offers more space than any similarly priced rival, without compromising on driver appeal, cabin quality or standard equipment.”

The Octavia Estate also earned plenty of plaudits. One judge commented: “The ŠKODA is roomier and more practical than many more expensive estate cars. Why spend more?”

Another judge’s verdict was that the car was functional, spacious and affordable. “The Octavia ticks all of the expected boxes, but it goes so much further in the way it drives and the refinement it offers to be a cut above its rivals.”

Alasdair Stewart, Brand Director for ŠKODA UK, was delighted with the two victories. “With opinions gathered from such a wide cross-section of motoring journalists, it’s clear the new Octavia is a winner on every level.”
