DURHAM, NC--April 23, 2014: Dr. Apoorv Agarwal has joined Organic Transit as its General Manager. Organic Transit produces the ELF, a pedal / solar-electric hybrid vehicle that achieves the equivalent of 1,800 miles-per-gallon.

Agarwal left Ford Motor Company after a 15-year career, most recently in Electrified Powertrain Engineering responsible for hybrid and electric vehicle systems and strategy.

"In two years we've gone from zero to hundreds of ELFs in seven countries," said CEO Rob Cotter. "As an engineer and business leader dedicated to sustainability, Apoorv compliments our mission and rapid growth strategy."

"I wanted to make a meaningful impact on personal mobility," said Agarwal. "Sustainable mobility is the biggest transportation challenge we have on the planet."

Agarwal, a native of India, moved to the United States after receiving his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, received his PhD from the University of Michigan and later received an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

"I became involved in clean transportation because of the extreme pollution I experienced growing up in India. At Organic Transit, I hope to further advance clean travel."

One of Agarwal's responsibilities will be to scale the company's production from hundreds of units per year to thousands of units in multiple geographies.

Organic Transit is a US manufacturer that designs and builds ultra-efficient vehicles that fill the space between a bicycle and a car. Multiple versions are in the pipeline for commercial delivery, catering and mobility for the disabled.
