Merecedes-Benz W 124 E-Class

May 19, 2014; The W 124 series was named Classic Car of the Year at the fourth annual Honest John Awards.

The award recognises the vehicle’s popularity among readers of the Honest John classic car page which receives over 600,000 page visits per month.

Keith Adams, Editor for Honest John Classics, commented: “The Mercedes-Benz W 124 has proved consistently popular with the readers of Honest John Classics since the site launched in May 2013. It's easy to see why – it's well-built, reliable, looks good and is available with a wide range of engines and body styles. With near-total parts availability, and great club support, it makes great sense as a retro-classic you can use every day, but also polish for those special weekend events.”

The 124 series, introduced in 1984 was the first vehicle family from Mercedes-Benz to bear the name 'E-Class'. In a production period spanning 12 years from 1984–1996, the series underwent several revisions with global production totalling 2,737,860 vehicles.

The current E-Class continues the tradition laid down by the innovative W 124 – featuring a Hybrid for the first time as well as the most powerful AMG variant of the car yet created, the 585 hp E 63 AMG S. The E-Class remains one of the most popular models in the Mercedes-Benz line-up in the UK.
