Broadcaster Kate Humble has picked up the keys to her new Mitsubishi L200

May 27, 2014: Kate, whose programmes include Lambing Live and The Wonder of Dogs, collected the vehicle at the 2014 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials in Gloucestershire.

Kate, who has just spent three weeks in Mongolia filming, said: “The L200 is perfect for me. We have a farm in Monmouthshire where we farm sheep, cattle, goats and pigs and run courses for people who are interested in farming in the countryside. We do everything from small-holdings to things like foraging and food courses.

“We had an L200 before so it’s a vehicle we have tried and tested but this new one is a rather sleeker model than our old one. We have to do everything from pull trailers to carrying straw and hay so it’s perfect for that. It’s a really practical all-round vehicle.

“The only way to get to where we live is up a very steep rugged track so for us it’s essential to have a four-wheel drive vehicle, particularly with some of the challenging winters we have had recently.”

Kate, who has also written a book titled Humble by Nature: Life, Lambs and a Dog Called Badger, which was released earlier this year, was delighted to be back at Badminton.

She said: “I always used to come to Badminton as a child and we used to stay in a shabby caravan. I absolutely love it. It’s also a bit of a reminder that I was never a good enough rider to ever come close to taking part. Growing up all my heroes and heroines were riders, not pop stars and there’s something wonderful about this part of the world. It’s a beautiful course and it just feels like the start of the British summer.”
