Unveils 2015 Spark EV, the result of strategic partnership with Korean supplier Showcases eco-friendly diesel and turbocharged models

Busan--May 29, 2014: Chevrolet is showing a range of innovative products that offer zero-emission performance and feature highly efficient diesel and turbocharged engines at the 2014 Busan International Motor Show (BIMOS), which starts today in Busan.

Among the 24 products on display at Chevrolet’s 2,208-square-meter stand is the 2015 Chevrolet Spark EV. The model is making its domestic debut in Busan, where electric vehicles are growing in popularity.

“Chevrolet’s eco-friendly Spark EV marks a turning point for electric vehicles due to its highly efficient battery,” said GM Korea President and CEO Sergio Rocha. “It demonstrates GM Korea’s commitment to sustainable growth and the growth of the domestic supply base.”

With its new lithium-ion battery cell from LG Chem, the 2015 Spark EV sets a new benchmark for performance and driving range among urban electric vehicles.

“GM and LG Chem have been jointly addressing the electric vehicle market since the launch of the Chevrolet Volt,” said Young-soo Kwon, President of LG Chem. “LG Chem will continue working with GM to expand our leadership position in electric vehicle batteries.”

Spark EV Sets New Industry Benchmark

In June, GM Korea’s Changwon plant will start regular production of the 2015 Spark EV, which uses a newly designed battery that is more efficient and lighter than the system in the 2014 Spark EV. The battery has 192 lithium-ion cells and a storage capacity of 19 kWh. Energy efficiency has increased 7 percent, resulting in unsurpassed mileage of 6.0 km/kWh (based on certification by the Korean government).

The 2015 Spark EV also offers enjoyable driving dynamics, an SAE combo DC fast-charging system, an industry-best warranty and a competitive price to Korean EV customers.

Diesel and Turbocharged Powertrains Lead New Trend

In addition, Chevrolet is introducing its eco-friendly and highly efficient diesel and turbocharged vehicle lineup, which embodies the brand slogan of FIND NEW ROADS.

Chevrolet has applied diesel powertrains in the Cruze and Malibu sedans after introducing the Orlando MPV and Captiva SUV powered by 2.0L and 2.2L turbo-diesel engines. The newest member of Chevrolet’s diesel portfolio, the Malibu Diesel, went on sale in March, making an unprecedented market response.

Chevrolet has also been a leader in the application of turbocharged engines in the small and compact passenger car segments in Korea. The Trax, Cruze and Aveo RS equipped with 1.4L turbocharged gasoline engines are addressing the desire of younger buyers for vehicles that combine performance and affordability.

Another innovative Chevrolet product making its local debut at BIMOS is the Camaro Transformers concept. The model will appear as Bumblebee in the Hollywood movie Transformers 4, which opens worldwide in June.

Connect with Chevrolet at BIMOS

Experience events, such as a Chevrolet dance performance and interactive racing game three times daily. On-site photos with Bumblebee and other autobots from Transformers 4. An appearance by the Chevrolet racing team on May 31 and Jung Woo on June 6.
