NORTHVILLE, MI -- Aug. 20, 2014: IAV Automotive Engineering, Inc., a leading engineering services firm, will showcase its innovative technology helping to support global mobility at the 2014 World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS World Congress), Sept. 7-11 in Detroit, Michigan. At the event, IAV will have a demo vehicle equipped with its Highly Automated Driving (HAD) technology available to experience on Belle Isle, as well as an exhibition booth in the Cobo Center.

"The ITS World Congress is an annual showcase of the latest technological trends in intelligent transportation systems, and we are proud to share how IAV contributes. We want to help show the world that Detroit – and Michigan – is a hub of creativity, innovation and technology, especially when it comes to the automotive industry," said Andy Ridgway, president of IAV Automotive Engineering, Inc. "We pride ourselves on our expertise and focus on exceeding the expectations of our customers. Our presence at the conference will further demonstrate our position as a leading supplier, going above and beyond to help advance the industry."

IAV Develops What Moves You

IAV has a long history of vehicle integration and development and, at ITS World Congress, IAV will demonstrate how its expertise can help automakers reach the next step toward automated driving. On Belle Isle, IAV will provide an opportunity for attendees to ride in a demonstration vehicle equipped with IAV's highly automated technology. The vehicle with IAV's HAD technology has been programmed to perform at Level 2 automation, defined by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. At this level, IAV is demonstrating automated driving technology that is two to three years ahead of production. The drive will demonstrate engagement in the driving mode, and removing hands off the steering wheel and foot off the pedals at the same time.

During the demonstration ride, conference attendees will experience HAD technology in different conditions first-hand, using low and high speed applications. Specifically, the demonstration rides will employ adaptive cruise control, lane-change assist, parking assistance and more. IAV also has extensive knowledge in blind spot detection and emergency braking technologies, and plans to incorporate these additional features into the demonstration vehicle. IAV's demonstration vehicle test drives will run every 30 minutes during the designated ITS World Congress technology demonstration hours from IAV's tent on Belle Isle, across the MacArthur Bridge and back, and will last approximately 15 minutes.

"IAV has a significant history in the area of highly automated driving, approximately two decades of experience," said Ridgway. "Our early investment and current expertise allows us to assist our customers fully, as the rest of the industry puts more of an emphasis on this technology. With our HAD technology, we will continue our tradition of state-of-the-art driving systems and know-how that we use, with our customers, to create the best transportation technologies possible."

Enhancing Vehicle Technology

IAV's exhibit inside the Cobo Center, at booth 611, will feature more of IAV's connected vehicle technology, including:

Automotive Ethernet: an application for infotainment and driver assistant uses, powered by OPEN Alliance BroadR-Reach® Technology. It connects head units and rear seat units, which allows for the streaming of infotainment content and IP-camera-based parking assistance. Mobility Cube: an analysis instrument used to tackle mobility issues and analyze data along the mobility chain. Car-to-X Traffic Light System: a system that assists cars in providing optimized safety by helping the vehicle display the speed at which the traffic light can be passed while in green mode and, similarly, while in the red light phase. Advanced App-Adapter Kit: an app that transmits vehicle information to the driver's iPad and mobile device, allowing the driver to have more control over the vehicle's functionality. The app can provide such things as traffic assistance, vehicle data indicator and destination programming, among other functions. Special Vehicle Assistant: a vehicle cockpit app for emergency responders. The ITS World Congress is an annual conference, where more than 10,000 of the world's leading transportation policymakers, researchers, high-tech innovators and business professionals from the U.S., Europe and Asia gather to share the latest intelligent transportation systems applications from around the globe. The event visits North America once every third year.
