Porsche GB debuts at Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show

AUTO CENTRAL, UK -- Sept.. 17, 2014: Porsche GB will make its Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show debut with a unique display of around 13 to 16 freshly restored Turbo and Targa models, entered into the manufacturer’s Classic Restoration Competition, including the overall winner.

The Classic Restoration Competition, now in its second year, challenges the Porsche Centres across the UK to showcase their skills in restoration with this year’s chosen model tying into the 40th anniversary of the first Porsche Turbo model.

In addition, 2014 has also seen the re-launch of the iconic 911 Targa model so the Centres were challenged to restore any Classic Porsche model that is turbo-charged and/or a Targa. This includes the turbo-charged front-engined models such as the 924 Turbo and 944 Turbo.

The range and breadth of entries includes a really interesting mix including some fairly rare cars; from a 924 Carrera GT and a 944 Turbo Cabriolet all the way through to a fantastic 930 Turbo Martini Edition.

James Toye, Aftersales Business Development Manager for Porsche GB, explains: “The competition is open to all Porsche Centres but participation is voluntary due to the significant investment in terms of time, effort and cost. Nevertheless the level of enthusiasm from the network so far has been brilliant. The competition has been running since January and concludes in September, at which point all Centres must have a finished car in order to qualify for judging.”

“So far we have a total of 16 entries into the competition which is a great result and clear testament to the enthusiasm and passion of the Porsche Centre Network. Trying to source a suitable car is in itself a huge challenge and can quickly eat away at the amount of time left to actually restore the car. Centres can either purchase a restoration project themselves or work in partnership with a customer who wishes to restore their car.”

Judging will take place in September where the restored cars will be judged across three categories (mechanical restoration, body & paint restoration, marketing and display activity) by a panel of Porsche Cars GB judges. There will be one overall winner and then a winner for each separate category. The overall winning Centre will walk away with a once in a lifetime trip to Camp4 - Porsche's winter driving school in northern Finland.

Dan Nwaokolo, Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show Director, said: “We are thrilled to have Porsche joining us at the show. The support of such a prestigious manufacturer demonstrates the strength of the show and the overall classic market.”

This showcase of iconic cars is just one of the phenomenal displays planned at this year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, held at Birmingham’s NEC from 14-16th November. Tickets are on sale now. For more information and to book tickets, visit NEC Classic
