Pennzoil The Pioneer Web Site Sponsor (1995) Of The Auto Channel To Donate $222,222 To Paralyzed Veterans If Joey Logano Wins Kobalt 400

But First Snide's Remarks:In April 1995 The Auto Channel.com went live on line... in November 1995 Pennzoil through the efforts of its brilliant and forward thinking advertising agency president Dick Westman (RIP) understood the potential of the Internet and committed Pennzoil to a two year $1.2 Million title sponsorship of The Auto Channel...this was in November 1995.

Every page of The Auto Channel had relevant Pennzoil product and service banners that would deep-link back to the appropriate product page on Pennzoil's nascent on-line effort.

In February 1996 Pennzoil through The Auto Channel sponsorship had Pennzoil product banners on what was the first live automotive subject webcast - the unveiling of Jaguar's XK8 which took place in LA at the Peterson Auto Museum.

In May 1996 Pennzoil became the first ever online sponsor of a month of Indy 500 coverage, the sponsor of the first ever LIVE NASCAR driver to crew radio cybercast and the first sponsor of streaming and textural coverage LIVE from the Detroit and LA Auto Shows.

Because the founders of The Auto Channel background's were in TV, in 1995 our team developed and implemented the first banner rotation program (like rotating spots) controlled by a TV traffic system. The banner will live forever, take a look at the prehistoric "banners" found on cave walls around the world... although I guess some buzz heads out there might consider those drawing native advertising...

Co-publishers Note: In November of 1995, with an uncanny but perfect vision of the future of the Internet, and a professional ad man’s understanding of what was best for his client, Dick Westman then president of Pennzoil ad agency Eisaman, Johns & Laws, negotiated the exclusive motor oil and automotive chemical sponsorship for Pennzoil of the soon to launch (January 1996) pioneering automotive website http://www.theautochannel.com, and for two years until January 1998 the Pennzoil brand owned the webs nascent but growing automotive audience.

Pennzoil as the title sponsor of The Auto Channel also became the sponsor of the Internets first live streaming motor sports events on-line (including the Indy 500 and NASCAR), the first live TV-on-the- web coverage from the major auto shows, the first Live TV-on- the-web coverage of important automotive industry press conferences, and the sponsor of the first on-line new car and truck data base that provided Invoice Pricing and New Car Specs free to users on the Internet.

In effect Pennzoil was the first sponsor of what was to become the most watched editorial automotive site on the web.

But unfortunately for all concerned, just as the web was beginning to explode, Pennzoil changed their ad agency, and what should have been a brilliant long term marketing opportunity became just another bad idea from Pennzoil’s former ad agency and its ad guru leader...oh well.

HOUSTON - March 5, 2015: As Joey Logano heads into the Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend, he'll be racing for more than the checkered flag. Pennzoil is upping the ante for Joey Logano to bring the No. 22 Pennzoil Platinum Ford Fusion to victory lane on March 8th by pledging to donate $222,222 to Paralyzed Veterans of America if he wins.

Pennzoil made a charitable donation to Paralyzed Veterans of America in honor of Logano's first-ever career win at the 57th running of the Daytona 500. A The donation of $22,222 was a play on the number '22' as Logano won at the Daytona 500 on 2/22 in the No. 22.

When Logano was surprised with news of the donation on live TV, he announced that he would match the $22,222 donation with an additional $22,222 to Paralyzed Veterans of America from the Joey Logano Foundation. Paralyzed Veterans of America is an organization with a mission to positively change the lives of our nation's veterans with disabilities.

"It was such an incredible moment winning the Daytona 500 – it was a dream come true that wouldn't have been possible without my amazing pit crew and supportive sponsors," said Logano. "Pennzoil made the win that much more special with their generous donation to support all the veterans that sacrificed so much to help protect our freedoms."

Now when Logano hits the track this Sunday, March 8th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, he'll be racing to get Pennzoil to add another '2' to the donation figure and donate an additional $222,222 to Paralyzed Veterans.

"Today's win on the track is also a win off the track that wouldn't have been possible without our great relationship with Team Penske and talented drivers like Joey," says Colin Abraham, President, Shell Lubricants Americas. "We're so proud to be a part of the winning tradition with Team Penske where we are also able to go above and beyond to support a great cause that helps so many deserving individuals."

"For years, Pennzoil has been dedicated to Paralyzed Veterans of America's mission, and they've provided tremendous support for our veterans and their families," said Al Kovach, Jr., national president of Paralyzed Veterans of America. They've truly stepped it up for our veterans with this commitment of $22,222 in honor of Joey Logano's Daytona 500 win and their pledge of $222,222 in the event that Logano wins the Kobalt 400 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. We will all be cheering on the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion because we know Logano will be driving for veterans!"
