Put This Story In Context

Washington DC May 12, 2016; The growth of international automakers and dealers in the U.S. is an American success story. It's a story about American jobs and the profound economic impact of a $73 billion investment in the U.S. economy.

It's also about providing American consumers with an abundance of vehicle choices through innovative designs, advanced manufacturing processes, and transformative technologies.

AIADA and The Association of Global Automakers unveiled the latest economic impact report on Tuesday during AIADA's International Auto Industry Summit in Washington, D.C. "International nameplate automotive dealers are the bedrock of their local communities.

With a strong demand for high-quality products and services, these dealers sold nearly 60 percent of all vehicles purchased in the U.S. last year and employ a half million Americans," said AIADA President Cody Lusk.

America's 9,500 international dealership franchises sold 8.3 million vehicles in the U.S. last year, accounting for 59 percent of all U.S. retail vehicle sales. Together, these dealerships employed 570,000 Americans resulting in a payroll of $32 billion.
