NASCAR GDS: Rookies Lead in Goody's Dash Series Testing at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA--Rookie of the Year candidate, Randy Humphrey of Cornelius, N.C. turned in the fastest lap in today's practice session for the Goody's Dash Series, a member of the NASCAR Touring Division, at the Daytona International Speedway.

Humphrey's Pontiac Sunfire turned the historic 2.5 mile oval in a time of 56.322 sec. at an average speed of 159.795 mph. to lead the 37 drivers who took to the Speedway in this, the first test of the 1999 season.

Scott Krehling of Naples, Fla., another rookie candidate piloting a Pontiac Sunfire posted the second fastest lap of the day, with a time of 56.993 sec. an average speed of 157.914 mph.

Reigning Series champion, Robert Huffman's No. 37 Pontiac was third fastest in today's practice period followed by Mike Swaim Sr., another former Dash Series champion and a driver who has been missing from the Dash Series drivers roster for several years. Swaim is a four time winner of the upcoming Discount Auto Parts 200 and he's driving the only Dodge present for testing.

Greg Goodell of Easly, S.C. rounded out the top five on the Speedway today.

A record setting twenty-four Rookie of the Year candidates took part in this first day of testing in preparation for the Feb.12 Discount Auto Parts 200, the kick-off for the Goody's Dash Series 25th Anniversary season.
