Bud Shootout Drivers' Comments

4 February 1999

Feature Audio Coverage for the Bud Shootout Driver Intros and Comments (You must have the free Microsoft Media Player to hear these audio clips.)

Top qualifiers from last season's NASCAR Winston Cup Races met this morning at 'The Ultimate Motorsports Attraction,' Daytona U.S.A., to decide starting positions for this Sunday's Bud Shootout and Bud Shootout qualifying races.

Over breakfast, the second day fast qualifiers from last year's races drew lots to determine starting order for the Bud Shootout Qualifying Race. Under Budshootout rules, the winner of the Shootout qualifier will advance to fill the last slot in the Bud Shootout starting grid. The rest of the Shootout field is filled by pole winners from last year's races, who also participated in a lottery to determine starting order.

After breakfast, last year's pole qualifiers repaired to the Pepsi Theater at Daytona U.S.A., where the real fun began. There they were welcomed by a representative from race sponsor Budweiser, who introduced the ceremony and rewarded each of the lucky Bud Shootout starters with a Budweiser beer cooler and a year's supply of beer (go figure!).

After being introduced, each driver drew his starting position in turn, and made a few comments to the media. The Auto Channel was on the scene to capture the whole affair in audio format. You can listen to driver introductions and comments by clicking on a driver name in the list at the top of this article, and you can listen to Budweiser's introduction of the whole ceremony and presentation of gifts to the drivers.
