NASCAR BGN: Buckshot Jones at Indianapolis Raceway Park, Notes and Quotes

5 August 1999

"We have had some really good runs at IRP the last few years. We thought we had a shot at winning last year when we won the pole and led for a while, but, an airgun broke during one of our pit stops and we had to fight hard to finish third. The track has been very good to me and I am looking forward to racing at IRP again." -- Buckshot Jones, Driver No.00 Cheez-It Pontiac

* 1998 Pole Winner

Buckshot Jones is the defending pole winner at Indianapolis Raceway Park. His qualifying effort of 111.409 mph (22.167 sec.) is the second fastest qualifying lap in the 17 Busch Grand National events held at the track. Jones went on to lead the first 50 laps, win the MCI Fast Pace Award and finish third in the 1998 Kroger 200.

* Double Duty

Buckshot Jones will attempt to compete in both the Winston Cup and Busch Grand National races in Indianapolis this weekend, despite the fact that the events are taking place at separate tracks. This will be the second time in 1999 that he has competed at two separate tracks in the same weekend. On July 3, Jones ran the Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway and the Diehard 250 at the Milwaukee Mile on July 4.

* No.00 Cheez-It Pontiac

The No.00 Cheez-It team is fielding the same Pontiac that Buckshot Jones piloted at New Hampshire International Speedway three months ago. After qualifying 12th, Jones immediately moved toward the front and by lap 174 he had captured the top spot. However, a late race spin forced him to settle for a 16th place finish in the Busch Series 200.
