CSC Wins $171.4 Million DOT Contract to Support Volpe National Transportation CenterFALLS CHURCH, Va., Sept. 29 -- Computer Sciences Corporation has been selected to support a variety of information technology (I/T) system requirements at the Department of Transportation (DOT) Research and Special Programs Administration's Volpe National Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, Mass. The contract contains two base years and three one-year options and could be valued at $171.4 million if all options are exercised. CSC will provide on-site technical support, including state-of-the-art software development and maintenance, to all information systems areas at the Volpe Center, an organization of the DOT. The Volpe Center supports the entire agency and other federal organizations with I/T requirements in transportation, logistics and related areas. The contract work will be performed by CSC's System Sciences Division, headquartered in Calverton, Md., and involve approximately 300 software engineers and information systems specialists at various DOT operating locations. "CSC has supported a wide range of transportation requirements since the early 1970's," said Milton E. Cooper, president, CSC's Systems Group. The Volpe Center supports national transportation-related initiatives and enhances the nation's capabilities to meet future transportation requirements. Established in 1970, the center anticipates and creates awareness of national and international transportation trends and issues and serves as a bridge to industry, academia and other government agencies. Teaming with CSC are Battele, Columbus, Ohio; PRC Litton, McLean, Va.; System Resources Corp., Burlington, Mass.; and System Technology Associates, Inc., Hudson, Mass. In addition, seven university partners and 17 other I/T subcontractors can be called upon to provide specialized and short-term support as needed. CSC had $5.8 billion in revenues for the 12 months ended June 27, 1997.
