Gas Prices Up in Nevada, Down in Utah, Says AAALAS VEGAS, Oct. 13 -- Nevada gas prices continued a five-month climb while Utah prices fell a penny, according to the AAA affiliate for Nevada and Utah. Gas averaged $1.47 in Nevada -- up 3 cents a gallon since mid-September. In Utah, gas averaged $1.32. All prices are for a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gas. Las Vegas' average is up 4 cents to $1.42 and Reno's prices are up 3 cents to $1.54. "Nevada gas prices jumped 15 cents a gallon in just two months -- an 11 percent increase," said AAA spokesman Vernon C. Thompson. In Utah, Salt Lake City's average was up a penny a gallon to $1.33 while Provo's prices edged up 2 cents to $1.29. Northern California pumps averaged $1.46 -- the same as seven years ago, according to the AAA monthly survey of more than 350 gasoline stations in Nevada, Utah and Northern California. In 1990, gas prices shot up after Iraq invaded Kuwait. Recent tensions in the Persian Gulf region are again affecting gas prices, even though seasonal demand has dropped with the end of the summer driving season, according to Alan Kovski of "The Oil Daily." "Everything (fuel prices) was set to go down but didn't when crude prices got a boost," said Kovski. "There's normally a reduction in demand with the end of the driving season, but that trend has been delayed."
