Ford Announces Aerostar Safety Recall

13 November 1997

Ford Announces Vehicle Campaign

DETROIT, Nov. 13 -- Ford Motor Company is notifying
owners of certain 1992-1997 model-year All-Wheel-Drive Aerostar vehicles of a
voluntary safety recall.
Some of these vehicles when operated at extended high speed -- especially
during hot weather conditions and speeds over 80 mph -- may develop structural
failure of the transmission or transfer case assembly. In some cases, this
may result in loss of fluid from the transmission or transfer case and may
cause driveshaft separation.
Approximately 82,000 vehicles are affected, of which 17,580 are in Canada.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail to arrange with their
dealers to have appropriate repair work completed. All work will be completed
at no expense to owners.
