Bozell Wins Seventh CADDY Award for Jeep Commercial

21 November 1997

Bozell Adds Septuplet 'Best of Show' CADDY to Award Shelf

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Nov. 21 -- The Carlisle, Iowa couple
aren't the only ones celebrating the arrival of septuplets. Bozell Worldwide
Advertising captured the coveted Best of Show award at tonight's 23rd annual
Detroit CADDY Awards Show for the seventh consecutive year. Bozell is the
only agency to win the show's highest honor for seven straight years.
Securing the win for the agency was "Frisbee," a 30-second television ad for
Chrysler Corporation's Jeep(R) brand.
The CADDY Awards, sponsored by the Detroit Creative Directors Council and
Adcraft Club of Detroit, recognizes creative excellence within the Detroit
advertising community. More than 1,100 entries were submitted from area
advertising agencies for this year's competition.
"Frisbee," which has also received international airplay, reinforces the
Jeep vehicle's adventurous, rugged and versatile nature and its go-anywhere,
do-anything capabilities. The spot shows three Jeep owners playing an
exhilarating mountaintop game of Frisbee(R). When one of the participants
drops the Frisbee into the canyon below, all three players anxiously scramble
to their respective Jeep vehicles eagerly claiming, "I've got it!"
"Coming up with a great idea is the toughest part of our business, which
makes it especially rewarding for a creative concept that we've pioneered to
not only work for the client and their brand, but also to be recognized with
such prestigious honors," said Gary Topolewski, executive vice president,
chief creative officer at Bozell. "A significant amount of strong creative
work is coming out of Detroit which continues to put our city in the
advertising spotlight, both nationally and internationally."
Bozell took home the Best of Show last year for a television campaign
created for Chrysler Corporation's Eagle division, consisting of three 30-
second commercials. In 1995, Bozell won Best of Show for "Gates," a 30-second
television spot on behalf of Chrysler Corporation's Jeep division that
featured a Jeep Grand Cherokee surmounting a rock wall barricade. The
agency's "Snow Covered" spot won Best of Show in 1994 by demonstrating the
Jeep brand's image as a virtually "go anywhere" vehicle. In 1993, "Stripes,"
a public service announcement created for the Vietnam Monument Commission of
Michigan won, while in 1992, a campaign introducing the all-new Jeep Grand
Cherokee won the top honor. Bozell began its winning streak in 1991, when
"Everyday Life," a commercial for Jeep Cherokee, garnered Best of Show honors.
Bozell Worldwide is the 11th largest U.S. advertising agency. It has more
than 90 offices in over 50 countries.
