Ford Announces Vehicle Campaigns

DETROIT, Dec. 22 -- Ford Motor Company today
announced the following voluntary recalls.

    * Certain 1997 model-year F-250, F-350 and F-Super Duty trucks are being
recalled for a tire concern. Some of the affected vehicles may have tires
that were cut during the assembly mounting process. This may cause tire
sidewall bulging and eventual loss of tire pressure. There have been no
accidents or injuries related to this concern. Approximately 29,700 vehicles
are affected.
    * Certain 1998 model-year Ranger pickups equipped with 4.0-liter engines
are being recalled for a fuel line concern. On some vehicles, the flexible
section of the fuel line that connects to the engine may be routed closer than
intended to the exhaust manifold. This could result in damage to the fuel
line and, in some cases, may cause a fuel leak. There have been no reports of
this occurring. Approximately 3,100 vehicles are affected, of which 500 are
in Canada.
    * Certain 1998 model-year Mustang GT vehicles equipped with 4.6-liter
engines are being recalled for a fuel rail concern. Some of the affected
vehicles may have an insufficient braze joint on the fuel rail mounting
bracket that could allow the fuel rail to separate from the fuel injectors.
If separation occurs, a fuel leak potentially could result. There have been
no reports of this occurring and Ford is not aware of any accidents, injuries
or fires attributed to this concern. Approximately 8,300 vehicles are
affected, of which 126 are in Canada.
    * Certain 1997 and 1998 model-year Villager minivans are being recalled
for a battery concern. Some of the vehicles may have batteries that have
fractures where the cap attaches to the negative battery post. If this
condition occurs, there is risk of a battery rupture or fire. The cracks may
also cause battery cable corrosion which could result in a no-start condition.
There have been no reports of this occurring and Ford is not aware of any
accidents, injuries or fires related to this concern. Approximately 5,300
vehicles are affected, of which 355 are in Canada.
    * Certain 1998 model-year Eddie Bauer and Limited Explorer vehicles are
being recalled for a warning chime concern. On certain vehicles, the chime
that warns drivers that the key has been left in the ignition when the
driver's door is open may not operate as intended. There have been no reports
of this occurring and Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related
to this concern. Approximately 1,100 Explorers are affected, of which 100 are
in Canada.

Owners of affected vehicles are being notified by first-class mail and
requested to return vehicles to dealers for inspection and appropriate repair
procedures. The work will be completed at no expense to owners.
