Travel By Motorcoach for a Safe & Enjoyable ExperienceWASHINGTON, Dec. 22 -- As travelers gear up for the busy holiday travel season, the American Bus Association reminds automobile drivers to "share the road" wisely with commercial vehicles. And, even better, ABA suggests that travelers go to their destinations by motorcoach, one of the safest forms of passenger transportation. "Not only is motorcoach travel a great way to go on holiday tours or get to a destination, but it's also a safe way to experience those holiday parties," said Peter Pantuso, ABA president and CEO, who recommends that party organizers consider chartering a coach for New Year's outings, winter ski trips, or sporting events. "The cost of chartering a bus is extremely reasonable," Pantuso says, "and you've got the added assurance that there's a professional behind the wheel." Organizations or individuals interested in chartering a coach should ask for recommendations from friends and family, ask the company if it's a member of a trade organization such as ABA, and ask about the company's safety record. Numerous companies offer special packages during the season. ABA advises consumers to check local newspaper or radio ads as well as with their travel agents to find out about holiday travel offerings. Whether on a charter, tour, or in regular route service, reputable intercity motorcoach carriers are committed to providing passengers with a safe, comfortable experience, Pantuso says. ABA offers the public a free Motorcoach Travel Directory of carriers. Send a postcard or fax to 1100 New York Ave., N.W., Suite 1050, Washington, DC 20005-3934, fax 202-842-0850.
