Media Previews New Automotive Magazine at Detroit Show

DETROIT, Jan. 6 -- Concept vehicles and new-model cars and
light trucks aren't the only automotive products on display for the news media
at this year's North American International Auto Show four-day press preview.
More than 4,500 writers attending this year's auto show in Detroit also
are receiving a sneak preview of the world's newest automotive publication --
eMOTION! Magazine. Described as the auto industry's "first multilingual,
global publication" by Publisher Myron D. Stokes, eMOTION's first edition will
be distributed next month to nearly 3.5 million readers.
The inaugural issue features stories on Malaysia and the troubled
Asia-Pacific auto market, the Audi Avus Quattro, Delphi Automotive's J.T.
Battenberg, and Formula 1 racing.
Stokes said the bimonthly magazine will be distributed initially in
Spanish and English as a supplement in major North American newspapers such as
the Chicago Tribune and La Prensa. Multi-language, international circulation
will begin in late 1998 or early 1999. Newspaper selection and insertion is
being handled by Michigan-based Valassis Communications, Inc. .
"This isn't just another 'buff' magazine for car enthusiasts alone,"
Stokes points out. "eMotion! will cover a wide variety of interesting and
controversial topics, products and personalities that give the world's largest
industry its verve and vigor."
Subsequent issues of the magazine will be published in Portuguese, German,
Dutch, French, Italian, Indonesian, Korean and Russian. "In recognition of
the important role played by China and Malaysia, eMOTION! also will be
available by 1999 in their primary languages as well," Stokes added.
Headquartered in Detroit, the magazine is targeted to readers in the 35-55
year-old age group with household incomes of $75,000 or more. Stokes is a
veteran automotive journalist and award-winning former correspondent with
Newsweek Magazine. Other key editorial contacts at the magazine include
Managing Editor Martha Hindes, a well-known Detroit auto writer; Motorsports
Editor John Chuhran, and Hispanic Editor David Morales.
