Audi Achieves Best December Sales in Twelve Years - Best Sales Year in a DecadeAUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 6 -- Audi of America, Inc. reported U.S. sales of 4,031 for the month of December, representing a 21.9 percent increase over the same month last year when sales were 3,307. It was Audi's best December since 1985 and the best sales month overall since July of 1987. For the full year, Audi's total 1997 sales were 34,160, up 24.8 percent over 1996 when sales were 27,379. This achievement marks Audi's best sales year in the U.S. since 1987 and its third straight year of double-digit growth. The primary driver of this success was continued strong demand for all Audi A4 models with 20,871 sold in 1997. Sales of the daring, new Audi A6 -- chosen as a finalist for the North American Car of the Year -- helped Audi close out 1997 with 9,949 A6s sold overall including 2,854 new A6s sold since the car went on sale in early November. Audi has demonstrated this kind of year-over-previous-year sales increase for 35 of the last 37 months. SOURCE Audi of America, Inc.
