Detroit's Tenth North American International Auto Show Draws to Record Close

DETROIT, Jan. 19 -- The 1998 North American International
Auto Show (NAIAS) draws to a close this evening with a day's end attendance of
45,457, having set new marks in virtually every measure. The only North
American auto show sanctioned by the prestigious Organisation Internationale
Constructeurs des Automobiles (OICA), NAIAS is considered one of five premiere
shows worldwide.
The NAIAS is owned and operated by the Detroit Automobile Dealers
Association.
"The 1998 NAIAS has been an outstanding success due to the tremendous
support of the vehicle manufacturers, media and the community," said show
co-chairman Pete Rosenau. "Even the weather cooperated."
"We could not be more pleased," said NAIAS co-chairman Harold Kuhn. "The
1998 NAIAS set new records for vehicle introductions, press, Charity Preview
and public attendance."

The media turned out in record numbers to report on the show. Consumers were
very interested in the vehicles presented here and the good weather gave
everyone the opportunity to visit the show."
Shelton, who will join Kuhn as co-chairman of the 1999 NAIAS, noted, "This
is going to be a tough show to top, but we said that last year. We are
already working with the manufacturers, media and the City of Detroit to make
the 1999 show even more successful."
