Toyota Announces Pricing of All New 1998 Land Cruiser Tacoma PreRunner

    TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 4 -- Toyota Motor Sales USA (TMS),
Inc., today announced the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP) of the
all new 1998 Land Cruiser sport utility vehicle (SUV) and Tacoma PreRunner
compact pickup truck.
    The MSRP for the all-new 1998 Land Cruiser will be $45,950, an 11.6
percent increase over last year's model.
    The new Land Cruiser is larger, heavier and substantially more powerful
than its predecessor.  Despite this, Land Cruiser delivers improved fuel
efficiency, lower emissions and considerably quicker, more responsive
acceleration.
    Land Cruiser is powered by an all-new 4.7-liter 32-valve DOHC V8 engine
with a full-time, two-speed four-wheel-drive system linked to a four-speed
automatic overdrive transmission.
    Extensive standard equipment for Land Cruiser will include a manual
adjustable steering wheel, power adjustable front seats, power windows, door
locks and heated outside mirrors, air conditioning, 3-in-1 AM/FM/cassette/CD
stereo sound system, 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels, driver and passenger-side
air bags Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), seat belts equipped with a
pretensioner and force limiter for the front seats, cruise control and an
engine immobilizer security system.
    Land Cruiser is scheduled to arrive at Toyota dealerships in early April.
    The MSRP of the all-new 1998 Tacoma PreRunner two-wheel drive (2WD)
compact pickup truck will range from $17,238 for models with a four-cylinder
engine to $18,168 for V6 models.
    Built at Toyota's New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI) production
facility in Fremont, Calif., the Tacoma PreRunner combines the rugged styling
and off-road ability of Toyota's four-wheel drive (4WD) pickup trucks with the
affordability of a 2WD model.
    PreRunner is available only as an XtraCab model with an electronically
controlled four-speed automatic transmission.
    Standard equipment on Tacoma PreRunner includes air conditioning, Deluxe
ETR radio/cassette with four speakers, dual SRS airbags with a passenger side
cutoff switch, fabric 60/40 split-bench seat, sliding rear window with gray
privacy glass, chrome-plated rear bumper, forward-facing rear jump seats and
dual cup holders.
    PreRunner is scheduled to arrive at Toyota dealerships in March.
