Chrysler Corporation Minivans and Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee Named Automobile Magazine All-Stars

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 8 -- In its annual awards issue,
Automobile Magazine named Chrysler Corporation minivans as an All-
Star in the "The Best Minivan" category and Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee as an All-
Star in "The Best Mid-Size SUV" category. The story appears in the magazine's
May issue which hits newsstands early this month.
Chrysler Corporation minivans, which include the Chrysler Town & Country,
Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager, were named "The Best Minivan" by
Automobile Magazine's editorial staff and readers who participated in the
magazine's "Reader's Choice" ballot. There were numerous nominees in the
minivan category including the Toyota Sienna, Chevrolet Venture and Ford
Windstar.
In the article, Chrysler Corporation minivans are referred to as "The
first, and still the best." Automotive Design Editor Robert Cumberford
writes, "For sheer usability and practicality, the Chrysler Town & Country,
Dodge Caravan, and Plymouth Voyager have consistently satisfied the greatest
number of buyers for the longest time."
In the same issue, Jeep Grand Cherokee is recognized as "The Best Mid-Size
SUV." Among others, competitors included the Mercedes ML320, Ford Explorer,
Mercury Mountaineer, Toyota 4 Runner, and Chevrolet Blazer.
Technical Editor Kevin Clemens writes that Jeep Grand Cherokee is an All-
Star because "it is one of the few sport-utility vehicles that remains true to
the original concept of go-anywhere, do-anything, see-you-when-I-get-back kind
of vehicle." He concludes, "It's a vehicle that has reached a level of
comfort and civility that goes far beyond its humble origins, yet it retains
in its genetic memory the ability to perform nearly heroic off-road feats."
"It's an honor to receive awards in two markets that we created, the
minivan market and luxury sport-utility vehicle market," said James P. Holden,
Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Minivan Operations. "Our
minivans continue to dominate nearly half of the minivan market while our Jeep
Grand Cherokees continue to receive accolades from consumers and the
automotive press."
