AAMA Stresses Summer SafetyWASHINGTON, May 22 -- The following is a statement by American Automobile Manufacturers Association (AAMA) President & CEO Andrew H. Card, Jr.: "As the Memorial Day holiday approaches, the American Automobile Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and its members, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors, would like to remind drivers and passengers of a few simple facts. "Seat belts should be worn at all times in any vehicle. Air bags are most effective when coupled with a securely fastened safety belt. Children should always ride in the back seat, and infant seats must be installed according to the vehicle manufacturer's and seat manufacturer's directions. "Automakers are constantly making strides to improve the safety of their vehicles. Motorists can do their part by staying cool at all times while driving on the nation's roads. "During this busy holiday weekend -- and all summer long -- it is important to remember that 41% of all traffic-related fatalities are attributed to drunk driving. AAMA urges you to buckle up and drive responsibly." AAMA is the trade association whose members are Chrysler Corporation, Ford Motor Company, and General Motors Corporation.
