July 4th Travelers Will Find Lower Gas Prices in Texas

HOUSTON--July 1, 1998--Motorists traveling this holiday will find gas prices an average of 15 cents lower across Texas than last year's July 4th holiday weekend, according to AAA Texas. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is $1.004.
AAA reports the national average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline is $1.108 per gallon, 14.2 cents lower than last July 4th. This is the lowest price of gasoline for the July 4th holiday since 1990 when self-serve unleaded was $1.086.
AAA also projects 36.9 million people will travel this holiday compared to 35.7 million in 1997, which is up 3 percent from last year.
To ensure your safety this July 4th, AAA Texas reminds you to prepare for hot and unpredictable weather during summer travel by checking weather reports before departure. An automobile inspection that includes a check of engine oil, transmission and brake fluids, engine coolant, battery, hoses, tires and other vital components is essential before you go. Also, pre-plan your trip using up-to-date maps, stay on well-traveled roads, and pack an emergency kit that includes flares, jumper cables, flashlights, and a first-aid kit.
AAA Texas, an affiliate of the American Automobile Association, has been serving Texans since 1905. Today, AAA Texas offers its members a full service travel agency, financial services, public safety programs, and auto-related services.
