Infiniti Announces Recall on 1991, 1992 Q45 SedansGARDENA, Calif., Dec. 23 -- Today, Infiniti announced a voluntary safety recall campaign on Infiniti Q45s manufactured from June 1990 through June 1992 for the 1991 and 1992 model years. This safety recall campaign affects 28,970 vehicles in the United States and 609 in Canada. Q45s manufactured during this period were equipped with rear speakers that have an integral amplifier. Within this speaker amplifier, there is a potential for a short circuit to develop if a number of factors are present, along with high humidity conditions. If these conditions exist, there is a possibility that the speaker amplifier could overheat, which could result in a smoke or flame and possibly the speaker catching fire. Until an Infiniti retailer repairs the speakers, owners of these vehicles should turn their stereos off immediately if any unusual sounds from the rear speakers are heard. The incident cannot occur with the stereo turned off, so it is best to avoid using the stereo until the repair is made. To repair this condition at no cost to the customer, Infiniti will replace the circuit board in each rear stereo speaker amplifier. Infiniti will begin contacting the owners of these vehicles beginning in early January to request that they schedule appointments with Infiniti dealers to replace the circuit boards. Committed to a high level of customer service, Infiniti is working with its retailers to quickly address this condition for Q45 customers.
