Eyes On Design Celebrates Automotive, Fashion, Furniture Design
GROSSE POINTE SHORES, Mich., June 14 -- Eyes on Design, the
world's only automotive exhibition to focus on the emotion, character and
execution of design will add fashion and furniture to this year's exhibition
being held Father's Day, June 20, at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse
Pointe Shores. All proceeds from the event will benefit the visually impaired
and the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO).
"We're an evolving show and we wanted to expose our guests to other
machine-made products that count heavily on design and artistic content," said
Gordon Miller, Eyes on Design event chairman. "Fashion and furniture
designers utilize the same principles and discipline as automotive designers.
We approach our work in much the same manner and often get our inspiration
from each other."
On display will be an educational exhibit that traces the history of
modern design dating back to 1920s Germany and the famed Bauhaus. Guests will
see a Mies van der Rohe Barcelona chair, a 1941 futuristic Chrysler
Thunderbolt designed by Alex Tremolous, lamps and other furniture created by
Eileen Gray and fashions from the Somerset Collection. Also at this year's
event will be a fashion show of "Retro" heritage put together by W Magazine.
The fashion show will be a part of the Private Eyes Brunch.
Tickets for all Eyes on Design Events are available by calling
313-824-EYES (3937). Prices are $15 per person for the Design Exhibition and
$95 per person for the Private Eyes Brunch (by reservation).
    The DIO is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation founded in 1972. It
operates the only Allied Health Education accredited Ophthalmic Assistant
program and two-year Ophthalmic Technician program in Michigan, one of only 13

visually impaired persons in the United States.
