Superior Wins $250mm Aluminum
Road Wheel Contracts

16 June 1999

New Plant Required

VAN NUYS, Calif.--Superior Industries International Inc. announced today that it has won multi-year contracts with an annual value of more than $250 million.

These contract wins, which are in addition to previously announced new orders, include both new incremental business as well as replacement business for wheels currently being manufactured. The new business is represented by orders from major global auto manufacturers for several unnamed model platforms.

The replacement business consists of several contracts for 2000 model year vehicles, including the Mercury Sable, Chevrolet Suburban/Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Oldsmobile Intrigue, Buick Regal, Cadillac DeVille, and BMW Z3 Coupe. Shipments under these contracts, some of which replace existing contracts that expire in the current model year, are scheduled to begin shortly.

A company spokesman said: "The new model year is off to a very strong start for Superior. With our unparalleled aluminum engineering and manufacturing capabilities, OEM customers know that they can count on us to deliver the highest quality products built to exacting specifications, in large volume, on time and on budget. This is an enormous competitive advantage that is helping us capture a growing share of the OEM aluminum wheel market. Accordingly, we have begun planning for construction of a new plant to meet this growing demand for our products. It's also why we are confident that we can be equally successful in our new business initiatives in the emerging non-wheel aluminum automotive components market, where aluminum's lighter weight and improved performance characteristics are creating a new long-term growth opportunity for Superior."

Superior supplies aluminum wheels and other aluminum components to Ford, General Motors, Chrysler de Mexico, BMW, Volkswagen and Audi as well as various Japanese auto manufacturers including Toyota, Mazda, Nissan and Isuzu. The company is also a leading manufacturer of accessory products for the national automotive aftermarket.
