Contact: Alex Litrov (818) 501-l445 Eagle One To Sponsor Award For Achievement In Motor Racing Carlsbad, Calif., September l6, 1999 -- The Shav Glick Award, named in honor of the venerable motor sports editor of the Los Angeles Times, will be presented annually to a Californian for distinguished achievement in motor racing. The award will be sponsored by Eagle One, a leading marketer of premium automotive appearance care products. The first recipient will receive the award at the NASCAR Winston Cup NAPA Auto Parts 500, at California Speedway, next spring. Glick has reported on motor racing for the Times for 36 years. During that time, the award-winning writer has covered every Indianapolis 500 since 1969, as well as other major auto, motorcycle and boat races. "Shav is uniquely deserving of special recognition for the many years he has reigned as one of the deans of motor sports journalism and for his admirable support of motor racing," said John Dillon, vice president-marketing for Eagle One. "This award will ensure that his name will long be associated with the sport." Dillon added that California has always been in the forefront of motor racing and is the home of many drivers, owners, mechanics, executives and others who have contributed to the growth and popularity of the sport. They will be the candidates for the Shav Glick Award. Judges will be Bill Center, motor racing writer of the San Diego Union; Mike Harris, motor sports writer for Associates Press; Mary-Ellen Wright-Rana, PR- marketing for Laguna Seca Raceway; Jim Short, motor racing writer for the Riverside Press-Enterprise; Doug Stokes, PR Director of Irwindale Raceway and John Zimmerman, editor of Racer Magazine.
