Johnson Controls Diversity Leader Equilla Wainwright Selected For 1999 Women Looking Ahead 100 ListMILWAUKEE, Sept. 27 -- Women Looking Ahead News magazine of Atlanta is honoring Equilla Wainwright, a human resources director at Johnson Controls, for her efforts in promoting diversity within the company as well as her dedication and commitment to excellence on a daily basis. The magazine has named Wainwright to its 1999 WLA 100s List, which honors Georgia's most influential movers and shapers who share the common thread of being dedicated to cultivating success through diversity. The efforts and work of the 1999 WLA 100s List honorees were commemorated Sept. 23 during an black-tie ceremony at the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in Atlanta. Hosted in conjunction with Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week, the event featured Georgia Governor Roy Barnes as the keynote speaker. Noteworthy women who met stringent leadership qualifications were honored in 10 different categories. Ms. Wainwright is listed among the Women in the Corporate America category. "This outstanding honor for Equilla is no surprise to those of us who know and work with her. She is a dynamic force and has made significant contributions to our company since joining Johnson Controls four years ago," said Darrell Middleton, vice president of human resources for the Controls business at Johnson Controls. "Equilla's dedication and positive outlook toward eliminating barriers and bringing balance to our systems and services field staff truly helps Johnson Controls better mirror the communities it serves," Middleton added. Currently, the human resources director for the company's Systems and Services North America operations, Ms. Wainwright, who resides in Atlanta, joined Johnson Controls in 1996 following a fast-track career with Ford Motor Company and MCI WorldCom, a global business telecommunications company. At Johnson Controls she is responsible for managing the human resources team that supports 4,000 employees in 122 systems and services field office locations throughout the United States. A native of Muncie, Ind., Ms. Wainwright earned her bachelor's degree in business administration at Ball State University in Muncie and a master's degree in managerial sciences from the Central Michigan University, Detroit campus. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, National Council of Negro Women, National Society of Human Resources Management, American Society of Training and Development, American Management Association and Cascade United Methodist Church.
