Racing Game Puts Players At The Wheel Of The Legendary Beetle

1 December 1999

Infogrames North America, Inc. Brings Peace, Love and Beetle Racing to the Personal Computer With Buggin'; Racing Game Puts Players At The Wheel Of The Legendary Beetle

SAN JOSE, Calif.--Dec. 1, 1999--Infogrames North America, Inc., a leading publisher and developer of video game software, announced today that Buggin'(TM), an arcade racing game that features an official VW license, will be available for the PC in early 2000.
Buggin's artwork, environments and vehicle design have been created to capture the atmosphere of the 60's mod style. The game offers more than 20 original tracks and has 17 models of vehicles, with more than 50 styles to choose from.
"Buggin' pays tribute to the most beloved vehicle of the 20th century," said Laddie Ervin, director of marketing for sports and racing at Infogrames North America, Inc. "It will appeal both to people who owned one of the original Beetles, as well as people who have never actually seen a Beetle with the trunk in front!"
The game offers three modes of play including Quick Race, Championship and Beetle Challenge. Whether a player chooses to drive the open road, at the beach or in the stadium, players of Buggin' will also have to deal with elements such as bright sun, rain and night conditions.
Buggin's five events include Cross, Speed, Monster, Jump and Buggy. Each of the five events offers a variety of unique cars that are designed for each specific challenge. The Cross track features a dirt track stadium loaded with slopes and dunes, while the Jump track allows players to use their "nitro boosters" to attempt a huge jump.
Four huge tires and a soft suspension turn a cute little Beetle into a big bad machine on the Monster track, where players must navigate an obstacle-filled course, smashing up cars and causing massive destruction -- but remember to watch the clock, it's all being timed!
Buggin' starts players off with the standard 1960's Beetle and, as they win races they earn points and other vehicles become available. Some of the vehicles players will find in Buggin' include the pre-1968 VW Beetle, the pre-1970 VW Bus, the pre-1999 VW pickup, the 1969 VW "181" (Kubelwagen), and it is the only game to feature the 1999 New Beetle Cup model.
Developed by Xpiral and published by Infogrames, Buggin's smooth graphics and 3D modeling of cars and tracks offers players a great arcade racing game for the personal computer. Buggin' will offer 2-8 multiplayer support via LAN, a split screen mode, and will require at least a Pentium 166 with 32 MB of RAM, with no 3D hardware required.
