Daewoo Awarded Top Marks for Resale Value
5 December 1999
COMPTON, Calif., -- Daewoo Motor America received top marks for resale value in its first evaluation by the Black Book Official Used Car Market Guide, a leading industry source for used car values. In every category in which they competed, Daewoo vehicles were initially reported to have a higher resale value amongst the top manufacturers. The Daewoo Lanos achieved #1 status in two of three categories, far ahead of the Chevy Metro Lsi and Hyundai Accent. Values for Nubira and Leganza were also in the top echelon in their categories and ahead of long established competitors. Nubira ranked higher than Toyota Corolla CE, Kia Sephia, Chevy Prism, and Hyundai Elantra. Leganza stood ahead of Toyota Camry, Chevy Malibu, Nissan Altima and Mazda 626. Black Book reported Daewoo vehicles values for resale after one year. All Daewoo automobiles reported values were greater than the competitive average in each category. All Daewoo cars averaged 79.5% of original MSRP as their first year residual value, seven percentage points more than the competitive average. The average value of the Lanos after one year was 79.4% compared with 68.7% average value for all competitors in its class. The Nubira had an average value of 79.2%, compared with 74.3% for the average competitor in its class, and the rating for the Leganza was 79.8%, compared with 73.0% for the average of its class. These ratings reflect the high quality which is built into all Daewoo vehicles and the industry leading scheduled maintenance program which provides all Daewoo owners with a 3 year/36,000 mile scheduled maintenance program at no additional cost. Included in the program are all wear-items from wiper blades to brake pads, filters and batteries. Daewoo automobiles have received overwhelmingly positive reviews from top auto writers and by top automotive research organizations. The Automobile Club of Southern California rated Daewoo Lanos and Nubira 1st and 2nd for "Best Overall Value," and JD Power and Associates placed the midsize Leganza in the top three of their 1999 APEAL consumer study. In only its first year of ProRally racing, the Daewoo Nubira captured the Michelin Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Pro Rally championship trophy in the production manufacturer class. The Korando SUV also took first place at its first ever Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 off road race this past November. Daewoo Motor America sells the subcompact Lanos, the compact Nubira and the mid-size luxury sedan Leganza through an expanding network of retail outlets nationwide. Currently, there are 259 retail locations in 43 states. The Korando sport utility vehicle will be available for sale in spring 2000 and will make US debut at the 2000 Los Angeles International Auto Show.
