Convenient Parking and Transportation Available in Downtown Detroit For North American International Auto Show 2000
    DETROIT, Jan. 13 -- Individuals attending the North American
International Auto Show at Cobo Center will find convenient and accessible
parking and transportation downtown.  The show runs from January 15 - 23.
More than 800,000 visitors are expected to attend.
    Visitors are encouraged to park at facilities near People Mover stations
and ride over to the show.  For a map of downtown parking facilities and the
People Mover route, visit the City of Detroit's Web site at
http://www.ci.detroit.mi.us .
    The City also is offering free shuttle service from the Joe Louis Arena
Garage throughout the day until 11 p.m.
    Detroit Department of Transportation is also providing shuttle service
from two parking facilities -- Grand Circus and Kennedy Square -- as well as
the Greektown People Mover station, which is closed because of construction.
The shuttle services runs from 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and
from 5 - 11 p.m. on Monday through Friday.  The cost is 50 cents.
    The following MPD facilities will be open for visitors attending the Auto
Show Charity Preview on Friday January 14 and the Auto Show:

    For individuals riding the People Mover, hours of operation are:

    *  Monday - Thursday                      7 a.m. - 11 p.m.
    *  Friday                                 7 a.m. - midnight
    *  Saturday                               8 a.m. - midnight
    *  Sunday                                 8 a.m. - 11 p.m.

    The People Mover fare is 50 cents per ride.  Any combination of U.S.
nickels, dimes and quarter or one DPM token may be used for entry.  Tokens are
available in all DPM stations.  Persons certified as handicapped, Medicare
cardholders and the elderly are eligible for discounted (50%) passes and
token.  Children five and under ride free.  Trains depart the stations
approximately every 3 - 5 minutes.  The DPM is 100 percent accessible to
elderly and disabled persons.
