Palmtop Publishing Earns Prestigious Design Award for PDA Digital Marketing Giveaway Project
First Time New Media Winning Award On DisplayAt the New York International Auto Show in the
Jacob Javits Convention Center Through April 22, 2001
SEATTLE--April 17, 2001--The international Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD), headquartered in Washington, DC, has awarded Seattle-based Palmtop Publishing a prestigious Juror's Award.
The award was made for the company's innovative Digital Marketing Giveaway(TM) handheld computer solution implemented at the Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) for the Dodge Division of the Daimler-Chrysler Corporation .
Palmtop Publishing's achievement marks the first time a new media company has been selected to receive a SEGD Design Competition Award. The winning entry has been customized for the New York International Auto Show (April 13-22) and is currently on display as part of the Dodge exhibit at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.
Powered by OnTap(R) Technology, Palmtop Publishing's POPspot Wireless(TM) is a compact and elegant infrared PDA message delivery system. POPspot Wireless delivers the powerful, high-tech PDA-based message alongside the more traditional display components in the Dodge exhibit. The POPspot Wireless solution is particularly novel in that it does not require computer integration or Internet access. The device is plug-and-play and operates independently, requiring only standard AC power. The simplicity of the POPspot Wireless solution allows for quick and easy integration into any exhibit or display.
Handheld users simply point their PDAs at a small infrared beaming window positioned on the Dodge display countertop to request the Dodge PDA program. Upon request, handheld users automatically receive the Dodge Auto Show program directly into their PDAs.
Within seconds, a powerful, illustrated and colorized interactive Pocketgram(TM) catalog containing Dodge vehicle specifications, Dodge concept cars, the NASCAR racing schedule, standings and winnings, as well as a detailed auto show event floormap -- amazingly in under 75k -- is beamed via infrared into any Palm OS device, including the Handspring Visor , Palm Computing handheld , IBM WorkPad and Sony Clie .
Palmtop Publishing's POPspot Wireless infrared solution also beams custom applications to Microsoft Pocket PC devices.
Palmtop Publishing was one of four Juror's award winners selected from 337 SEGD Design Competition entries submitted from around the globe. The jury was comprised of seven international design industry luminaries.
Commenting on the Palmtop Publishing PDA Digital Marketing Giveaway project, renowned exhibit designer Mitchell Mauk exclaimed, "This will be a profound influence on trade shows and hints at possibilities in the future." Mr. Mauk is Principal/Owner of Mauk Design in San Francisco. His work includes the most recent 44,000-square-foot Sony Playstation exhibit and is included in the permanent collection in the Library of Congress.
A formal Design Awards ceremony will take place on May 31 at the Eden Roc Resort and Spa in Miami, FL as part of the SEGD 2001 Annual Conference and Expo. SEGD will showcase winning designs in a year-long touring exhibit.
