Karmann Keeps Moving with DeMattia

PLYMOUTH, Mich.--April 18, 2005--DeMattia Group, one of the Midwest's leading architecture, construction management and real estate development firms, is happy to announce the completion of Karmann USA's newest manufacturing facility. DeMattia provided design/build services for this facility. The new 144,250 SF manufacturing facility, was completed in early 2005 is located across the street from their US headquarters, which DeMattia completed last winter, serving the North American market. Both facilities are located in Plymouth, Michigan near Beck Road and M-14 giving Karmann and their clients easy access to the I-275/I-96 corridor and beyond.

This new facility is manufacturing convertible roof systems for various automotive companies including DaimlerChrysler Corporation and General Motors Corporation. The manufacturing process is light assembly. Most equipment used is specific to the assembly of the roof systems like spin riveters, small presses, drill and milling machines, test equipment, CMM machines, robots and textile cutters. Some equipment will be custom made by Karmann for the assembly operation. Major areas of the plant include sub-assembly areas, backlight assembly, general assembly areas, warehousing, maintenance, sequencing center, employee support areas and office space.
