MUNICH, June 5, 2014. It is a busy year for BMW. The next new model
that is in the pipe line is the X6. BMW released the first details of the
2015 model that will succeed the current, first generation, that was
introduced in 2008. Even though BMW has not always been applauded for
coming up with the big Sports Activity Coupe, the product strategy proved
to be right: of the outgoing X6 almost a quarter million unites have been
sold worldwide.
The new model is undoubtedly an X6, but with a nose that has the
family looks of the other models in BMW’s line-up, also providing the
new SAC a more dynamic stance.
For a quick comparison, we show the current X6 in blue and the new
one in red. You will see the kidney grille is of the powerful type that we
see on the new BMW coupes, with the headlights reaching in against the
grille and extending outwards into the side panels. The front bumper/apron
section runs much lower and the front fog lamps have been moved more
inside. Chrome inserts underline the standard bi-xenon units. Adaptive LED
headlights are available.
As we know from the other models, also the X6 has the are air
deflectors in on the front wheel arches, air curtains are integrated into
the air intakes of the front apron and air breather sin the side panels.
At the rear the horizontal lines are more pronounced. LED light
strips of the L-shaped, two-section rear lights give away the nature of the
car at night.
From the side we see a sharper crease in the back fender, blending nicely
into the tail lights.
Also the interior has been reworked and looks pretty much like the
cabin of the new X5 and offers a luxurious atmosphere.
The new X6 comes with a more extended standard equipment than of the
outgoing model with, as I already mentioned, bi-xenon headlights, 19-inch
light-alloy wheels, the 8-speed Steptronic sport transmission with paddle
shifting possibilities, leather trim, two-zone climate control, automatic
tailgate operation and the Driving Assistant safety
Package from BMW
ConnectedDrive.
The rear seat backrests can be folded 40:20:40, allowing to lead
long items and expanding the luggage compartment’s capacity from 580
liters to 1,525 liter (+75 liter more than the current X6 (20.5 cu.ft to
53.9 cu.ft).
Important is also the improved fuel consumption of the engines that
are offered for the new X6. From its market launch in December 2014, the X6
will be available with the 450 hp V8 engine in the xDrive50i, a 258 hp
6-cylinder diesel for the xDrive30d and a 6-cylinder diesel with three
turbochargers and 381 hp in the X6 M50d. BMW mentions a consumption cut by
up to 22 per cent.
From the spring of next year, the X6 xDrive35i, (306 hp), and xDroive40d
(313 hp) will also be available.
In the price list we will also see options such as Navigation
Professional with Touch Controller, B&O surround sound system and Rear
Entertainment System Professional.
BMW ConnectedDrive includes many driver assistance systems, that we
already know from the other BMW models, while the Intelligent Emergency
Call function is part of the standard specs of the new X6.
With the arrival of the new X6, the complete BMW line up has been
the modern family looks.
